Donnelly Tanker Management awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Search and Rescue Efforts in 2019

Donnelly Tanker Management has been awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Search and Rescue Efforts in 2019 by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The announcement was made on 1st December 2020 during a live webcast within the course of their Safety@Sea Webinar Series.
On 31st July 2019, whilst drifting off the coast of Mombasa waiting to enter the port, MT “Hafnia Africa” received a distress call.  The recreational fishing boat “Dream Catcher” with 5 Kenyan crew and 2 British passengers onboard, was sinking.  Although the sinking boat was unable to give their location, the crew of “Hafnia Africa” spotted them and immediately proceeded towards their location.
With a swell of approximately 1.5m and a strong current of 3 knots, there was no time to waste.  The boat was sinking fast and by the time “Hafnia Africa” arrived at the estimate location, the boat had already sunken.   While the Captain manoeuvred the ship against the current, the crew of “Hafnia Africa” launched the rescue boat to rescue the crew and passengers of “Dream Catcher” from the shark infested waters.
It was only due to the quick action, skills, training and cooperation of the entire crew of “Hafnia Africa” that the crew and passengers of “Dream Catcher” were able to be rescued that day.
