WISTA Cyprus hosted The Art of Leadership & Emotional Mastery, an interactive workshop held on 15 October at the Alasia Hotel in Limassol, bringing members together for an engaging experience focused on leadership, emotional intelligence and communication.

Facilitated by Sofia Rizou, Founder of the Seafarers Boost Method and Director at Maritime & Healthcare Group, the three-hour workshop offered a different approach to leadership development, combining active participation, reflection and practical learning.

In an industry characterised by demanding situations, high-pressure decisions and multicultural teams, maritime professionals rely not only on technical expertise but also on their ability to communicate effectively, manage emotions, build trust and navigate difficult conversations.

Through interactive exercises, guided reflection and practical workplace scenarios, participants explored how emotional responses influence leadership styles, how trust can be built, and how communication can be strengthened across cultures. An interactive leadership simulation allowed participants to explore how they respond to conflict, make decisions and communicate under pressure.

The workshop encouraged members to step outside their usual routines, approach familiar situations from a different perspective and reflect on how they could apply these insights in their professional lives.
The positive response from participants highlighted the value of combining professional development with an engaging and supportive learning environment.

The event forms part of WISTA Cyprus’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for women in the maritime industry to develop their leadership capabilities, exchange experiences and build connections. Through initiatives such as this, the association continues to promote a broader understanding of professional development, recognising the importance of interpersonal skills alongside technical expertise.
