OSM shortlisted for 3 Crewconnect Global Awards

OSM is proud and humble to have been shortlisted for no less than three CrewConnect Global Awards! The global awards has a total of five different categories, whereas OSM is nominated in the “Welfare and Corporate Social Responsibility Award”, “Seafarer of the Year Award” and the “Rising Star Award”.

Entries are judged by an independent panel of distinguished industry leaders. The judging panel will be looking for excellence, innovation and role models in an industry keeping pace with change occurring at unparalleled speed.

This is what CrewConnect says about the nominees:

Welfare and Corporate Social Responsibility Award

This award recognises a leading corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy or initiative delivered in the past year (2019-2020).

NMC quickly moved to online PEME follow-ups, reaching the seafarers with an email of their results and a phone call to discuss results. Our Doctors participated in numerous virtual vessel townhalls in partnership with the Crew Management teams to address the needs of the seafarers while they are onboard. Health talks covering a holistic view of physical-emotional-mental-spiritual health are broadcasted online where seafarers and their family members could take part in the discussions. Collaborative efforts like this helps shift the mindset of the seafarer, their families, and the organization to have a more proactive approach in taking personal care of our health and well-being. The Maritime industry may be in rough seas at this time, but Nordic Medical Clinic has embraced its role to find creative and effective healthcare scientific solutions for our seafarers and local manning agencies.

Seafarer of the Year Award

Awarded to an active seafarer, someone who has stood out in the past 12 months’ as making a real difference to the crew and operations on board.

Chief Steward Roel Cruz – OSM
Roel joined OSM in 2010 as a Chief Cook. When he is ashore, he works as an on call instructor and assessor. He was also trained in OSM Catering Academy as one of its pioneering Chief Stewards . After 2 years since joining, he was promoted and became the first Filipino Chief Steward of Oceanic Sirius vessel . Living by the OSM core values, Chef Roel is a well loved leader of his department and a valuable member of his fleet. His inspiring story overcoming poverty, excellent work ethics, valuing family and investing hard earned money has been featured during the entire run of the Family and Wealth Management Conference of the OSM Seafarers Family Club in all its 10 chapters.

Rising Star Award

This award is to honour an individual, working on board, or shore based who has made a significant contribution to their organisation or the industry in the past 12 -18 months.

Chief Officer Thaddea Pearl Hangad
As they say, life on board is not all calm seas and bright, sunny skies. This was indeed her experience in climbing the ranks; more so that Thaddea is a woman seafarer. But armed with her OSM core values, she kept her focus, gave all her best and continued on unfazed. Finally in 2020, she is now sailing as Chief Officer of a new built VLCC tanker, and the first Female Chief Officer of OSM from its cadetship program next stop , captainship!
