IIno Lines announced delivery of LPG-Dual-Fuel Ice-Class VLGC “LUMI AURORA”

IINO Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd announce that “LUMI AURORA,” an LPG dual-fuel Ice Class Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC, the “Vessel”) was delivered at Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd.’s Okpo Shipyard.
In its medium-term management plan, “Transformation for a Sustainable Future” (April 2026 to March 2031), IINO Group has set a target of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As a specific measure toward this target, we are investing in next-generation fuel vessels that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Vessel is the third LPG dual-fuel vessel in the Group’s fleet, and is capable of reducing CO2 emissions compared with conventional vessels powered solely by heavy fuel oil. At the same time, the Vessel is the largest type of VLGC and is designed to carry not only LPG, but also ammonia, which is attracting attention as a clean fuel that does not emit CO2 during combustion.
In addition, the Vessel is the world’s only VLGC which has ice-class capabilities meeting Ice Class IB (*) standards. With the assistance of icebreakers, the Vessel is capable of safely navigating ice-covered waters in the Baltic Sea during the winter season.
We have been engaged in the transportation of LPG and other liquefied gases for more than half a century since 1963, supported by medium- to long-term contracts with major customers in Japan and overseas. Drawing on the extensive experience and technical expertise developed through many years of vessel operations and management, we are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation services, while actively introducing technologies that help reduce environmental impact and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
