HD Hyundai wins US Data Center power deal

Contract Covers 1,000-MW Facility for Local Big Tech Client
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on August 10 that it signed a contract with Corban Energy Group, a US energy infrastructure development company, to supply power generation equipment based on the 9.6 MW-class HiMSEN engine. Corban Energy Group is an engineering firm that supplies gas and power products for various infrastructure businesses, including data center construction and Department of War (DoW) projects. The equipment supplied this time will be used as the main power source for a data center operated by a local big tech company.
The 9.6 MW-class HiMSEN engine to be supplied is a high-capacity medium-speed engine with world-class power generation efficiency. Based on its high-output performance, it can operate continuously for 24 hours, earning differentiated competitiveness in the data center market where stable power supply is essential. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is rapidly expanding its presence in the local market, having also signed a supply contract worth 627.1 billion won ($482.38 million) with AEG in the United States in April.
The US data center power generation equipment market is showing steep growth due to the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) services and increased investment in cloud infrastructure. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) of the United States predicted that the proportion of data centers in total US power consumption will expand by up to three times or more compared to the current level by 2030. As power demand increases explosively, the demand for high-efficiency power generation equipment is also surging rapidly.
HD Hyundai is concentrating its capabilities to respond to the data center market at the group level. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate holding company in the shipbuilding sector, is focusing on developing core technologies for floating data centers, while HD Hyundai Electric and HD Hyundai Marine Solution are expanding their power distribution equipment supply and engine maintenance and repair businesses, respectively. The strategy is to strengthen market dominance through a vertically integrated business structure extending from engine manufacturing to post-management.
Starting with this contract, the two companies agreed to maintain a close cooperative relationship in subsequent projects to be carried out in the future.
