Eni and KazMunayGas Mark First Electricity from the Gas Power Plant of Kazakhstan Hybrid Power Plant Project

Eni announces the achievement of First Industrial Electricity from the 120 MW Gas Power Plant, a key component of the 247 MW Mangystau Hybrid Power Plant Project developed in partnership with KazMunayGas and Eni’s subsidiary Plenitude in the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan.
This milestone marks another major step in the development of Kazakhstan’s first large-scale hybrid power plant, integrating solar, gas and future wind generation to ensure decarbonized and reliable electricity supply to KazMunayGas subsidiaries in the region. The project represents an innovative approach to supporting the country’s energy needs while contributing to the diversification and modernization of its energy system.
From the start of construction work to the First Electricity generated at the Gas Power Plant, more than 2 million man-hours were worked without a Lost Time Injury, demonstrating strong project execution, commitment to safety and close coordination among all Local Stakeholders. The achievement reflects the ability to advance complex energy infrastructure within optimal timeframes while maintaining the highest safety standards.
The Mangystau Hybrid Power Plant Project is being developed through a phased approach. Following the commissioning of the 50 MW Solar Power Plant in September 2025 and the First Industrial Electricity from the Gas Power Plant in July 2026, the next stage will include the final commissioning of the Gas Power Plant within Q3 2026 and the progress of the 77 MW Wind Power Plant, planned to enter in operation in 2027, completing the Project’s hybrid configuration.
Built on the long-standing partnership betweenKazMunayGas and Eni, the Mangystau Hybrid Power Plant Project supports the strengthening of energy infrastructure in the Mangystau Region while contributing to Kazakhstan’s broader energy development and energy transition objectives.
Eni has been present in Kazakhstan since 1992, carrying out exploration and production activities. Eni is a co-operator of the Karachaganak field (29,25%) and is a participant of the North Caspian PSA (16,81%) consortium. Eni owns 2% in the CPC project and 5% of BTC project.
In line with its decarbonization strategy, Eni has expanded its presence in Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector through Plenitude. The Company operates 96 MW of wind capacity at the BadamshaWind Farms (Aktobe region) and a 50 MW solar power plant in Shaulder (Turkestan region).
