The SBTi has released four Requests for Proposals for consultancies to help develop key oil and gas project deliverables.

Fossil fuel combustion accounts for the vast majority of global GHG emissions. That’s why the SBTi is developing a standard which will enable companies in the oil and gas industry to set science-based targets aligned with the latest climate science.

To gather additional support, the SBTi has released four Requests for Proposals (RfPs) for consultancies to help develop key project deliverables:

1. A draft of the Oil and Gas Standard
2. An industry brief to define value chain activities and transition metrics
3. Derive decarbonization pathways and build a target-setting tool
4. Scope 1, 2 and 3 accounting guidelines for activities in the fossil fuel sector

The successful consultancies will work in close collaboration with the SBTi’s experts to deliver the four deliverables. Conflict of interest screening and safeguards will be put in place, and final approval of the standard will be by the Technical Council, as per the SBTi’s Technical Governance processes. Proposals must be submitted no later than January 19, 2024.

The SBTi recently released a call for experts to support the development of the Oil and Gas Sector Standard, along with a Terms of Reference for the project.

The main goal of this project is to develop the SBTi’s sector-specific standard for the oil and gas sector, informed by the Interim and EAG reports published in 2022 and 2023 respectively, and research that has been carried out. The final deliverable document will be version 1.0 of the Oil and Gas Sector Standard.
