European Shipowners’ Association discusses effects of Ukrainian crisis on European Shipping

The European Community Shipowners ‘Associations (“ECSA”), which includes the national shipowners’ associations of the European Union, held a regular meeting of its Board of Directors on March 17, 2022, in Brussels.

The immediately previous President and Board of Directors of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Mr. Philippos Philis, chaired the meeting, in his capacity as President of the European Shipowners’ Association. As part of the delegation, the Cyprus Shipping was represented at this meeting by the President of the Chamber, Mr. Themis Papadopoulos and Mr. Nikolaos Hadjioannou on behalf of the Cyprus Shipowners’ Association and the Director General of the Chamber, Mr. Thomas Kazakos as Chairman of the ECSA Maritime State Aid Committee.

The meeting discussed important issues concerning European Shipping, such as the impact on the Shipping and Supply Chain due to the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, developments in the field of sustainable implementation of environmental regulations in the field of maritime transport, as well as the future strategic transformation of the Union in order to continue with the same success its strong role in shaping European Shipping policy.
