Maritime Cyprus 2021 reunites industry

Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry welcomes opportunity for shipping leaders to meet again in person at biennial conference

Maritime Cyprus has unveiled its plans for its infamous biennial October conference. The main theme of this year’s Conference is “Embracing Change: a choice or necessity?”

The conference, taking place physically between 10-13 October in Limassol, will tackle important topics in a rapidly changing maritime industry such as seafarer welfare, digital transformation, green finance, and the changing role of shipowners.

One of the first opportunities in a year and a half for industry leaders to meet in person, this year’s event is expected to attract the elite of the shipping industry, including some of the most influential names in shipping. In line with the conference’s trademark format and style, all speakers have been invited solely on merit and the moderated panel sessions will only take place during the mornings of the conference, with the afternoons free for meetings and networking.

The line-up features a number of senior representatives of regulatory bodies, including International Maritime Organization Secretary-General, Mr Kitack Lim, the European Commissioner for Transport, Ms Adena Valean the Presidents of the International Chamber of Shipping, ECSA, and BIMCO, as well as renowned shipowners and world class experts in the maritime sector.

Shipping Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Vassilios Demetriades, commented:

“2020 was a hugely significant year both shipping and the world as a whole. Adversity often breeds innovation and agility and – as an industry – we should feel proud of what we have achieved in such unprecedented circumstances. But there is still so much more to do and this requires cooperation and collaboration. This October, we are pleased to be able to, once again, open our doors and welcome some of the most influential names in shipping to Cyprus’ historical port town of Limassol, where we will discuss the near- medium and long-term future of shipping.

“We look forward to welcoming industry colleagues and friends to an exciting and lively debate on key topics. In addition, we will share our new strategic vision for Cyprus Shipping.”

The conference offers the opportunity for participants to meet shipowners and shipping executives from all over the world, as well as senior representatives from the Shipping Deputy Ministry, the Cyprus Union of Shipowners, and the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, plus the wider Cyprus maritime cluster, and familiarise themselves with the strong maritime tradition of Cyprus.

The official opening of the conference will take place on Sunday, 10th October 2021, at the Amathus Beach Hotel , in Limassol.

The Conference will be held in Limassol, at the “Carob Mill Conference Centre”, between 11th and 13th October 2021. The Official Opening of the working part will take place on Monday, 11th October 2021, by H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
