The UK Ship Register’s position as one of the world’s top performers in maritime safety has been given a further boost today (26 January) with the publication of the International Chamber of Shipping’s (ICS) Flag State Performance Table (2020/21).

It identifies the flag states which perform to a consistently high standard, benchmarking them across numerous categories, with the UK achieving positive markers across each of the performance indicators.

The ICS Flag State Performance Table provides an invaluable indicator of the performance of individual flag states worldwide. It analyses how the countries included deliver against a number of criteria such as Port State Control (PSC) records, ratification of international maritime Conventions and attendance at IMO meetings.

The latest report is further evidence and recognition of the UK’s position as one of the world leaders in standards for shipping safety. It follows a year in which the UK was ranked at number one on the Paris MoU Whitelist and retained The QUALSHIP 21 status (Quality Shipping for the 21^st Century), awarded by the US Coast Guard.

The ICS Flag State Performance table is designed to encourage ship owners and operators worldwide to prioritise the safety of all life at sea.

And the report is the latest assurance of the UKSR’s reputation as a world class flag bearer for maritime safety and innovation said Katy Ware, the MCA’s Director of Maritime Services and the UK’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation.

“We are really pleased with this latest confirmation that the UK continues to meet exacting global standards of performance. We work very hard across industry to achieve this and it’s encouraging to see that despite an exceptionally challenging year, our commitment to maritime safety is right up there with world standards,” she said.
