Seafarer charity Stella Maris has announced the appointment of V.Group’s James Muir as a board trustee.

The charity, which supports seafarers worldwide with a range of practical and pastoral support, operates a global network of port chaplains and volunteer ship visitors who offer welfare services and advice, practical help, care and friendship. The network works across 334 ports with 227 port chaplains in 59 countries.

James, who as Chief Commercial Officer for Ship Management is based in Glasgow, is looking forward to serving as a trustee: “Stella Maris is a cause that I have admired for many years, and I am looking forward to my involvement as a board trustee. The charity’s focus on seafarer wellbeing has never been more important in light of Covid-19 and the challenges that crew face while waiting to be relieved from their vessels. I hope that my participation with Stella Maris will help to continue shining a light on seafarer wellbeing through the work of this incredible charity.”

Stella Maris’ Chair of Trustees, Dr Esteban Pacha, welcomed James into the fold: “James’ long tenure in the maritime industry with V.Group gives him an insight into the world of shipping and seafarers which will help us greatly in our mission to support wellbeing. Seafarers can spend up to a year at a time away from home, separated from their family and loved ones and often working in harsh conditions. Stella Maris aims to support seafarers wherever they are in the world and with James’ maritime expertise, we aim to continue providing support.
