George Bougioukas, a first engineer on the ship Ptolemaios (Ptolemy), returned on Saturday to Greece after a total of 168 days in captivity in the African nation of Djibouti.

Greek Shipping Minister Giannis Plakiotakis sent a photograph of Bougioukas to his daughter, showing him holding his passport, all ready to return to his homeland.

It all started in September 15, 2019, when the cargo ship was seized by local authorities three miles off the port of Djibouti, as the authorities claimed that the Greek owner of the ship owed them money.

The good news for Bougioukas, however, was not accompanied by similarly positive developments for three other Greek sailors from the Ptolemaios, who continue to remain captive in Djibouti.
