V.Group presents environmental initiatives to US Coast Guard

Addressing the US Coast Guard (USCG) in Washington DC, Matt Dunlop, Group Director, HSEQ and Technical at V.Group, outlined V.Group’s commitment to the environment, including the company’s three main environmental goals: reducing harmful emissions, eliminating single-use plastics and enhancing awareness of environmental responsibilities.

Having an environmental vision and mission is essential to driving industry-wide progress, such as ensuring the ambitious target of reducing international shipping’s GHG emissions by at least 50% by 2050 becomes a reality.

Attendees to the event at the USCG Headquarters in Washington also heard that Witt O’Briens, the US regulatory compliance experts, had praised V.Group’s environmental procedures against MARPOL and US requirements along with industry best practice.

Matt Dunlop, Group Director, HSEQ and Technical at V.Group, commented:

“Ship operators are under constant pressure to demonstrate vessels are safe, both operationally for the crew and in terms of protecting the environment. It is essential we have policies in place to ensure environmental compliance and also exceed industry standards. Receiving praise from Witt O’Briens is testament to our dedication to developing a greener industry.

“Contributing to environmental initiatives such as joining the Getting to Zero Coalition is also  essential to fast-tracking shipping’s transition to zero carbon energy sources. We are passionate about collaborating for the greater good and have bold ambitions which serve as a leading example for others to follow.”

Further engagement meetings are planned with the USCG next year, strengthening the relationships between the organisations.
