Ahti secures Tempo funding from Business Finland

September 17, 2024
  • Competing against hundreds of other startups, Ahti received Tempo funding from Business Finland.
  • The funding will be used to enable Ahti to maintain full unbiased neutrality, and to support Ahti’s international growth
  • Business Finland’s previous funding has included Meyer Turku’s NEcOLEAP and Wärtsilä’s Zero Emission Marine ecosystem.
  • Ahti runs the world’s first public FuelEU Maritime compliance pool.
  • Ahti is trusted by clients including Gasum and Ren-Gas.

Ahti, a leading provider of emissions compliance solutions, today announced a major funding from Business Finland, the Finnish government organisation for innovation funding and trade, travel and investment promotion.

The funding will enable Ahti to accelerate the development of its cutting-edge Ahti Pool, further internationalise its business offering, and maintain full unbiased neutrality when helping clients navigate their complex energy transition decisions.

Ahti has been at the forefront of emissions compliance innovation since it was founded in 2022, by leveraging digital tools and data science to address the pressing need to make shipping emission compliance simpler and more cost-efficient. With the support of Business Finland, Ahti will continue to build upon its market-leading Ahti Pool and expand its global reach.

This funding marks a significant milestone for Ahti, and Business Finland’s funding endorses Ahti’s leadership, financing, and growth plan; Ahti Pool’s competitive advantages and product differentiation; and the huge commercial opportunities in the maritime emissions compliance market

Ahti’s proprietary service, Ahti Pool, is the world’s first FuelEU Maritime compliance pool, and demonstrates the growing importance of emissions compliance within the maritime industry.

Risto-Juhani Kariranta, CEO of Ahti, said, “We are very pleased to receive this funding from Business Finland, which is evidence of the impact – and major potential – of our concept to advance and streamline emissions compliance within the maritime industry. With this support, we can deliver a further enhanced solution that’s cost-efficient and unbiased to any compliance method.”

Lari Rajantie, Advisor for Startup Funding from Business Finland, said, “Business Finland is proud to support Ahti as it continues to develop cutting-edge maritime emissions compliance solutions for an industry that urgently needs to reduce its environmental footprint. Ahti’s innovative service, Ahti Pool, has the potential to cost-effectively transform the maritime industry and contribute to a more sustainable future for all. We expect a bright future for Ahti.”

Using tools it has developed to manage Ahti Pool, the world’s first FuelEU Maritime compliance pool, Ahti has calculated that the use of one e-methanol vessel on voyages within the European Union’s waters could make 70 vessels using HFO compliant. By comparison, under the FuelEU Maritime regulations, an LNG vessel with a low-speed engine could only be used to make five HFO-fuelled ships compliant.
