Orca AI launches a berthing assistance solution in collaboration with Samsung Heavy Industries

- The new solution, BerthView, combines Orca AI’s SeaPod with Samsung Heavy Industries’ SVISION, providing continuous situational awareness from open-water navigation through berthing.
- Launch advances the companies’ shared ambition to accelerate the commercial deployment of autonomous vessel technology at scale
Orca AI announced the commercial launch of BerthView, a berthing assistance solution combining Orca AI’s SeaPod digital watchkeeper with SVISION, Samsung Heavy Industries’ berthing assistance system, creating a continuous layer of AI-powered situational awareness from open water through to the final stages of berthing.
The launch marks a major milestone in the strategic partnership announced by Orca AI and SHI in April 2026, moving the collaboration from technology integration to a commercially available solution for shipowners and operators.
BerthView will be available for retrofit on vessels already in service, creating a pathway to deploy advanced navigation and autonomous capabilities across both new and existing fleets.
Extending situational awareness from sea to berth
Navigation requirements change significantly as a vessel approaches port. Traffic becomes denser, maneuvering space narrows and bridge teams have less time to assess developing situations, while close-quarters operations require highly accurate awareness of the vessel’s immediate surroundings.
Orca AI’s SeaPod uses AI and computer vision to detect, track and assess targets and navigational hazards from open water through congested coastal areas and port approaches. As the vessel enters close-quarters, low-speed manoeuvring and berthing, BerthView adds a dedicated perception layer.
Fisheye cameras positioned on the bridge wings provide a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the vessel and its surroundings, while visual distance guides and a virtual safety boundary help crews assess available space and clearance from nearby vessels, quay walls and other hazards.
The new solution not only gives bridge teams a continuous picture of the vessel’s operating environment, but also connects navigational events directly to FleetView—Orca AI’s cloud-based safety and fleet operations platform. This enables shore teams to identify recurring risks, investigate incidents, support claims, and leverage real operational events for structured crew training and fleet-wide learning.
From strategic partnership to commercial deployment
The launch builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Orca AI and Samsung Heavy Industries in April 2026 to combine SHI’s shipbuilding and autonomous vessel technologies with Orca AI’s AI-powered navigation capabilities.
SHI’s autonomous vessel portfolio includes SAS (Samsung Autonomous System), which provides economically optimized voyages through automatic route updates and ship speed control, alongside SVISION for close-quarters manoeuvring and berthing.
By collaborating, the two companies are taking a concrete step toward making increasingly autonomous navigation capabilities deployable across commercial fleets.
“This launch is an important step in turning our shared vision for autonomous shipping into a scalable commercial reality,” said Yarden Gross, CEO and Co-founder of Orca AI. “By combining Orca AI’s AI-powered operations platform with Samsung Heavy Industries’ advanced shipbuilding and autonomous capabilities, we can deliver immediate operational value to shipowners today while building the technology foundation for increasingly autonomous operations. Enabling BerthView as a retrofit across the existing fleet gives us a powerful route to bring these capabilities to the global shipping market at scale.”
“Autonomous shipping will be built by integrating advanced technologies into the vessel as one intelligent system,” said Hyun Joe Kim, Head of SHI’s Research Institute. “The collaboration with Orca AI is an important step in that direction. By combining SVISION and SAS with Orca AI’s AI-powered navigation technology, we are extending intelligent navigation across more of the voyage — from open water through close-quarters manoeuvring and berthing — and creating a scalable foundation for the next generation of autonomous vessels.”
