PPA S.A. has completed a series of infrastructure upgrades at Greece’s largest port ahead of the expected Easter holiday surge, aiming to improve safety, comfort and traffic flow during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
Refurbishments at the central passenger port include renovated terminal buildings, expanded shaded waiting areas, additional seating and greenery, and upgraded signage designed to make navigation through the port more intuitive for travelers. A significant portion of the enhancements focused on safety. More than 1,700 safety bollards, along with new warning signs and lifebuoys, have been installed across the port complex.
Structural improvements were carried out at key quays and access points to accommodate increased passenger volumes. Moreover, high-traffic areas such as Tzelepi Coast have undergone comprehensive restoration. The Karaiskaki underground parking facility was also upgraded with improved lighting, smart infrastructure systems, and automated technologies, while electric vehicle charging stations are scheduled for installation. Ground markings were refreshed in coordination with the Hellenic Coast Guard to optimize pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow. An additional ambulance has been stationed at the central passenger port, while more patrol staff and vehicles have been deployed to enhance safety during the holiday period.
According to PPA S.A. these initiatives from part of the company’s broader strategic plan and align with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, reflecting a shared commitment to creating a modern, secure and efficient port. The aim is to ensure the continuous enhancement of the experience for the thousands of passengers passing through Europe’s largest passenger hub each day, especially during peak periods.
In extending its seasonal greetings to travelers, partners and stakeholders, the Company’s Management reaffirmed its commitment to continued strategic investment in service improvements, reinforcing the Piraeus port’s position as a high-value hub for coastal shipping and tourism.
