An important development for Greek sailors and shipping companies is the digitisation of the Greek nautical register, which will be operational by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
The digitisation will greatly help the cross-checks as well as the clearances that currently take up to 6 to 10 years.
It will also contribute to the acquisition of critical data for the faster granting of sailors’ pensions.
The procedure currently applied is extremely laborious, while the digital operation will help avoid bureaucracy for the shipping companies and the workers on the ships.
The aim of the government is to attract young people to the maritime profession.
