OSM first virtual CMS course

All Ahead!! We are moving full speed ahead with implementation of the competence management system for seafarers. This time, it’s for Lauritzen Kosan’s gas fleet.

July 24, 2020 marks a milestone in the Lauritzen Kosan Competence Management System implementation. On this day, we held our first virtual CMS course for Lauritzen Kosan seafarers. Attended by Senior & Junior Officers scheduled to join Leonora Kosan on the second week of August, this course is to prepare the officers for the CMS activities onboard their vessel. Leonora Kosan will be the first vessel where the CMS activities will be carried out as a pilot to fine tune the processes and content of the competency standards before it is implemented to the whole fleet. The seafarers were joined in the training by LK management, plus OSM’s Crewing Team including the PIC for Lauritzen Kosan, Alexandra Grigorascenco, to ensure support from shore will be on hand for the seafarers.

In the first part of the virtual class Erik Wolf, Lauritzen Kosan’s Marine Competence Manager, welcomed the participants and stressed the reasons why Lauritzen Kosan decided to implement CMS in the fleet. He also gave some encouragement and his vision about how CMS should be successfully implemented. Facilitated by Ace Gonzales, CMS project officer and trainer, participants had a lively and productive learning experience during the course and are looking forward to the implementation on their vessel. As one of the senior officers commented, “The CMS is a good tool and guide for assessing the junior officers that have potential for the next rank.” – Capt. Rule.

In partnership with our customer, Lauritzen Kosan, OSM will continuously strive to enhance the competence of the seafarers and contribute to the achievement of LK’s Value Proposition. After all, OSM’s mission is to contribute to our customers’ success.
