A.P. Moller Holding finalises acquisition of Ocean Yield

The major acquisition of Ocean Yield by A.P. Moller Holding has been successfully concluded. Following the initial agreement announced on 2 July 2026, Ocean Yield confirmed today that all necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained, bringing the transaction to a formal close.
A subsidiary of A.P. Moller Holding has acquired 100% of the global ship leasing platform from funds managed by global investment firm KKR. The deal marks a significant expansion of A.P. Moller Holding’s maritime portfolio.
A Diversified Fleet Under New Ownership
Headquartered in Oslo, Ocean Yield possesses a robust and modern fleet. The company holds interests in more than 70 vessels across several core shipping sectors. This diverse portfolio includes gas carriers, LNG carriers, container ships, crude oil, product and chemical tankers, as well as dry bulk carriers.
During its period under KKR’s ownership, Ocean Yield experienced substantial growth. The company invested over 3 billion USD to expand its existing portfolio and broaden its investment grade customer base. As a result of this strategy, Ocean Yield nearly doubled its long term contracted backlog to more than 5 billion USD, ensuring stable cash flows and high quality lease contracts.
For A.P. Moller Holding, the transaction is seen as an ideal complement to their century of experience in the maritime industry. The acquisition strengthens their long term maritime legacy and positions them well within the ship financing and asset management sectors.
Advisory Teams
The successful completion of the transaction was supported by a prominent group of financial and legal experts:
-
Financial Advisers: Arctic Securities and Bank of America acted on behalf of Ocean Yield.
-
Legal Advisers: BAHR and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett provided legal counsel for the transaction.
With the regulatory hurdles cleared and the deal finalised, the maritime industry will be watching closely to see how A.P. Moller Holding integrates this expansive leasing platform into its broader global strategy.
