The mission launched for Lebanon, with four boats, is part of a practical solidarity and assistance to the Lebanese people, particularly Beirut, following the devastating explosion of 4 August 2020.
The Director of the Ayia Napa Marina, Konstantinos Fytiris said that “sending food to the people of Lebanon is an initiative of the Marina and the Metropolis which collected food from the citizens of the free Famagusta region. A total of five tonnes of food were collected to be sent with four vessels to Lebanon.”
As Mr. Fytiris said “Lebanon is a neighbouring country with which we are separated but also united by the sea, they have experienced the tragic consequences of war and refugees and we fully understand them. In the context of strengthening relations between the two countries and helping the Lebanese people, particularly after the explosion in Beirut, this mission is being carried out which will also contribute to improving transnational relations because relations between peoples are based, in addition to political relations and relations between ordinary citizens.”
