The Saemangeum Development Agency  held the ‘Saemangeum Cruise Revitalization Task Force Team Meeting’ on March 10 with relevant agencies including Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province.

Participating agencies included the Gunsan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Gunsan Branch of the Jeonju Immigration Office, Gunsan Customs, Jeonju Branch of the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service, the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, and the National Gunsan Quarantine Station.

At this meeting, discussions focused on cooperation measures for plans to establish a temporary cruise terminal at the Saemangeum New Port to lay the foundation for attracting cruise ships. The participants agreed to comprehensively discuss matters ranging from budget securing to facility scale and operation methods (direct management, consignment, etc.). Consistency with port operation plans, security and safety standards, and administrative procedures under relevant statutes will also be continuously reviewed.

Discussions were held on securing CIQ (Customs, Immigration, Quarantine) functions essential for cruise ship operations, the feasibility of installing screening and inspection equipment within the temporary cruise terminal, required spaces, and passenger flow configurations. The participants agreed to establish a response system once actual port call schedules become concrete.

The Saemangeum Development Agency plans to further strengthen the cooperative framework among relevant agencies and develop detailed phased action plans to systematically prepare the foundation for cruise ship arrivals at Saemangeum.

Nam Gung Jae-yong, Director of the Development Projects Bureau at the Saemangeum Development Agency, stated, “The establishment of a temporary cruise terminal is an important foundation for Saemangeum to leap forward as a maritime tourism hub in the Yellow Sea Rim region,” adding, “We will work closely with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and other relevant agencies to develop feasible and swift implementation measures.”
