New UAE regulation eases Yacht travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai

In a move that bolsters the UAE’s status as a premier yachting destination, foreign-flagged yachts can now travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai under a newly unified administrative process designed to streamline inter-emirate cruising.
As of January 2026, sailing permits issued by either emirate will be mutually recognized, eliminating the need for duplicate entry and exit formalities. The initiative leverages the Early Inquiry System API, enabling seamless sharing of vessel, crew, and passenger data across both jurisdictions.
The result: a simplified experience for foreign yacht owners and charter guests, with less paperwork and more time on the water.
The regulatory update follows extensive coordination between Abu Dhabi Maritime, the Dubai Maritime Authority, and a coalition of federal and local agencies, including the National Guard, Dubai Customs, and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.
“Dubai is proud to share its experience in facilitating international yacht visits,” said Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the Dubai Maritime Authority. “This unified approach marks a pivotal step in solidifying the UAE’s position as a world-class maritime destination.”
Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and chief sustainability officer at AD Ports Group, echoed the sentiment: “This initiative underscores our shared vision of enhancing maritime mobility and competitiveness. It’s about creating a more accessible and welcoming environment for global yacht owners and charter guests.”
The policy change is expected to provide a significant boost to the UAE’s maritime and luxury tourism sectors, offering international yacht visitors a smoother, more connected cruising experience across the Arabian Gulf’s two most vibrant cities.
