In the latest cruise ship ranking by the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union, the company has once again secured the top position — this year, alongside Havila. With this result, Norwegian operators once more lead the field.

NABU’s recognition highlights both the measures already implemented to reduce emissions across Hurtigruten’s fleet and the company’s forward-looking Sea Zero project. Sea Zero is the company’s research and development project to design a ship that can sail with zero emissions in normal operations.

This recognition also holds particular significance for travellers from German-speaking markets. “Our guests consciously choose Hurtigruten because we combine authentic travel experiences with a commitment to environmental responsibility. Being ranked first once again by NABU reaffirms our position and motivates us to consistently pursue our sustainability goals,” added Marius Griego, VP Sales & Marketing DACH at Hurtigruten.

Hurtigruten is driving sustainability in the cruise industry through hybrid retrofitting, innovative fuel solutions, and extensive research and development efforts. Earlier this year, MS Nordlys became the fourth ship in the fleet to be upgraded with battery-hybrid propulsion. Alongside fleet modernisation, Hurtigruten reduced Scope 1 emissions per guest by 9% and cut SOx emissions by 45% in 2024 compared to 2023.
