• The new space connecting the port and the city has received thousands of visitors in its first days of opening

The Port Authority of Valencia has made available to the people of Sagunto a new enclave which, due to its uniqueness, beauty and extension, has already become an obligatory point of visit: the new promenade of the port of Sagunto.

This new tourist attraction has won the affection of locals and visitors from the first day of opening, generating a large number of snapshots shared on social networks: ‘being able to see the port and the coast from another point of view makes you realise that we have wonderful beaches and seeing them from here… I’ve been swelling up taking photos’, says Salvador Izquierdo, a resident of Sagunto.

Since it was opened to the public on 19 July, thousands of locals and tourists have already passed through its 400-metre extension, moved by the curiosity of this space which, according to Daniel Alexandra Ramos, one of its visitors, ‘is a spectacular place’. ‘For families with and without children it is a perfect area’, says Luis Letona, a tourist from Teruel.

The promenade has panoramic views of the beaches of Sagunto and rest areas equipped with benches, individual seats and shaded areas. It also has differentiated activity areas: museum and cultural sites, a sports area and a children’s leisure area. ‘I love the promenade, it is one more piece of history for what the port is and not to forget our ancestors’, says Mari Egea, a resident of Sagunto.

This promenade has been conceived as a meeting point between the port and the city, its essence is based on the interconnection that it generates between the residents, tourism and the day-to-day activity that takes place on the Sagunto quays. This new civic area is an area of port-city interaction which gives continuity to Sagunto’s current seafront promenade.

The cost of its construction, which has been entirely paid for by the APV, has amounted to 5,523,650 euros (VAT included). This project has been developed on the land occupied by the terrestrial part of the current jetty with the aim of creating a new public space that connects the end of the current Mediterranean Crossing with the start of the maritime section of the jetty.
