How does Team Electric differentiate itself from other electrical contractor in terms of service and expertise?

Team Electric delivers turnkey electrical packages that include engineering, design, procurement, installation and commissioning for the newbuild and refit markets. Our project management teams take care of every detail to provide the marine industry’s most diverse range of electrical services. Founded in 2002, Team Electric has built up a substantial, highly skilled workforce and an international network of approved subcontractors: the quality our customers expect is available globally.

What are the key services the Team Electric offers, and how do they address the needs of commercial and industrial clients?

Can you discuss the importance of energy efficiency and sustainability in your projects, and how Team Electric contributes to these goals?

From power distribution systems to efficient lighting and control systems, we optimize the ship’s electrical infrastructure to enhance productivity, support smooth operations and minimize downtime. Optimizing energy efficiency is a core objective in every Team Electric project, while our extensive cruise industry experience means that efficiency gains as a route to sustainability have been a priority for customers for at least 15 years.

Team Electric expertise has also been central to the wider use of zero-emission battery technology, where retrofitting batteries on existing ships creates a space challenge. Landmark Team Electric references include retrofitting a substantially larger (6.7MWh vs. 4.2MWh) Energy Storage System on Tycho Brahe – the all-electric 1,250-pax ForSea ferry operating between Helsingborg in Sweden and Helsingør in Denmark. The 12,000 GT vessel paid no space penalty.

How does Team Electric ensure the safety and reliability of its electrical installations and services?

Ship-based and offshore installation projects come with inherent risks, and electrical safety is paramount. We specialize in designing and implementing electrical systems that adhere to rigorous safety standards, ensuring a secure working environment. Furthermore, Team Electric standards are the basis for ship safety itself, given their approved use for fire detection, Safety Management, PA/GA, CCTV, GAS, cause and effect matrix, firefighting, CO2, ESD matrix, fire doors, WTD doors and low level lighting.

What role does continuous training and education play in maintaining Team Electric’s high standards of service and expertise?

As a provider of electrical systems engineering, design, procurement, installation and commissioning for the cruise, ferry, offshore and commercial shipping markets, continuous training and education are critical for maintaining Team Electric’s high standards of service and expertise.

Can you share a success story or a significant project where Team Electric’s work had a notable impact on a client’s operations or facility?

Team Electric provided turnkey design, procurement, installation and electrical metalwork services for Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas. As the largest cruise ship ever built, the 250,800 GT vessel requires electrical services across 20 decks to support up to 7,600 guests, as well as its onboard attractions. Working with the Owner,  Meyer Turku Shipyard and  Turn Keys, Team Electric planned, project-managed, and executed the seamless installation of integrated electrical solutions across multiple locations, including 60% of public spaces, while ensuring aesthetic appeal and that energy is used as efficiently and sustainably as possible. Guest comfort was ensured across nearly 3,000 guest cabins, more than 60 suites and close to 1,500 crew cabins. Precision planning and high-quality electrical workmanship are also a feature the striking decorative LED lighting installed ship-wide (11,000m), its low-level lighting, balconies, stairs and corridors, restrooms, offices, and embarkation points. Team Electric expertise is also central to the ship’s technical solutions for: laundry services space (9,240m²); A60 fire roll shutters throughout; and rig system connections and cabling.

How does Team Electric plan to continue evolving its services to meet the changing needs of the commercial and industrial sectors?

We have a strong position in the cruise sector, where energy efficiency and sustainability have been priorities for at least 15 years. We are now engaged in conversations with commercial ship owners, managers, and equipment suppliers, on how electrical systems integration can bring fuel and emissions savings to enhance Carbon Intensity Indicator performance, for example.

While commercial ships are less complex than their cruise ship counterparts where electrical systems are concerned, we see opportunities for substantial efficiency gains. Integrated systems management can mean using software to run a pump or fan only as and when required, rather than wasting energy by leaving it to run all of the time at full power.

Looking to the future, what are the long-term goals for Team Electric, and how do you envision your company’s role in the electrical contracting industry?

We’re ambitious to grow across different ship types, as well as geographically. Team Electric Group recently established Team Electric (Romania), for example, with head offices in Galati. We’re seeking to develop Romania as a Team Electric centre of excellence, so that Romanian yards retain more value-add and completion work in-country, while homegrown engineering talent joins an international business with exciting career prospects. Similarly, last year, we opened Team Electric (Poland), Gdynia as a subsidiary to strengthen ties established over many years with Poland’s talented shipyard workforce, to develop employment opportunities locally and the skills pool supporting our global activities.
