 Valenciaport’s traffic increased by 19.31% in November, accumulating three months of consecutive growth. This is detailed in the Statistical Bulletin of the Port Authority of València (PAV) for the month of November, which shows that last month, the Valencian docks have managed 6,509,381 tons of goods -which represents an increase of +19.31% over the same month of 2022-. This data is broken down into the management of a total of 395,078 TEU’s (+18.72%), of which 73,847 containers were for export and 61,283 for import.

On analysing the balance of the month of November in the Statistical Bulletin, it can be seen that the growth in traffic in Valenciaport is due to the increase in the management of the total of general goods, totalling 5,744,630 tonnes managed (+20.73%) and also of bulk cargo, which has accumulated a total of 764,751 tonnes in October 2023 (+9.57%).

If we look at the accumulated figures for the year (from January to November 2023 compared to the same period in 2022), we can observe a line of stability marked by a balance of -3.81% tonnes handled and -6.73% in the number of TEUs.

Freight gets on the train

Among the measures contemplated within the framework of the APV’s environmental strategy, work is being carried out on the development and expansion of the port railway infrastructure with the aim of reducing emissions associated with logistics and adding to the objective of Valenciaport 2030: Zero emissions. The increase of +3.49% in the tonnes of goods transported by this means in the first eleven months of the year shows a gradual and continuous growth. Thus, a total of 2,950,837 tonnes entered and left the Valencian docks by rail: 219,238 TEU’s have been moved, +1.05%.

In parallel, the latest Statistical Bulletin published by the PAV shows that throughout the year the number of vehicles managed has grown significantly (8.26%) to reach 588,596 units. And, ro-ro traffic (short sea shipping services for roll-on/roll-off cargo) accumulated a growth of +2.40% in 2023, which means a total of 12,321,812 tonnes handled.

The number of total passengers (cruises and regular lines) follows a moderate line of growth and adds a growth of +12.54% in 2023, which means a total of 757,818 cruise passengers and 721,756 people who have travelled on regular lines with the Balearic Islands and Algeria. This month – compared to the same month in 2022 – the number of cruise passengers has decreased in the Port of València by -34.03% while those on regular lines have grown by +18.84%.

Egypt and Vietnam lead growth in traffic

Focusing on traffic by country in terms of tonnage, Italy continues to be Valenciaport’s main trading partner with 6,156,385 tonnes handled this year, followed by China with 5,745,634 and the USA with 5,218,021. For its part, Egypt achieved a growth of +31.19%, while Algeria accumulated this year a growth of +31.55%. It is worth highlighting the increase in relations with Ukraine, which increased by +192.29% in 2023.
