Raytheon Anschütz awards annual navigation prize

Lt. Mike Cavill won the third annual navigation prize as the top student from the U.K. Royal Navy’s Fleet Navigating Officers after completing their challenging course of written and practical assessments. Vice Admiral Sir Clive Johnstone KBE CB presented him with the award at the 90th Navigating and Directing Officers Association annual dinner at the HMS Collingwood.
Lt. Cavill completed the FNO course in October 2021 and was named top student for academic year 2021/2022. The award is sponsored by Raytheon Anschütz, a business of Raytheon Technologies.
“It’s a great honor to receive the prize for top FNO student. It’s a tough course, but I was lucky to have a great group of course mates and we all helped each other through. The course prepared me well for navigating HMS Enterprise, which has been a really rewarding job so far,” said Lt. Cavill.
Lt. Cavill was appointed navigator of the HMS Enterprise, a multi-role survey vessel. He assisted in regenerating the ship, completed operational sea training and subsequently deployed to the High North, visiting Tromsö and Reykjavík before returning to U.K. waters.
“With the annual navigation prize, we express our solidarity and our commitment to the Royal Navy, and we are proud to support their graduates from the early days in their careers,” said Glen Cheadle, general manager of the Raytheon Anschütz U.K. office in Portsmouth.
Raytheon Anschütz, through the U.K. office, provides support to the in-commission navigation systems on Type 45 destroyers and are also in the process of delivering integrated navigation and bridge systems for both of the new combat ship classes in-build for the U.K. Royal Navy; the Type 26 and Type 31 frigates.
