The President of Extremadura Fernández Vara thanked Valenciaport for its support for the project ‘Cáceres, city of peace’

This project is to build the largest Buddhist temple in Europe in the Extremaduran city. The Port of Valencia welcomed the sculpture of Mahar Karuna Buddha which will preside over this centre and which was exhibited in the Clock Building.

The President of the Government of Extremadura made these declarations at the inauguration of the XI International Congress of Business and Foreign Trade being held in Mérida.

Valenciaport is participating in this event. The general manager of the PAV, Francesc Sánchez, pointed out during the inauguration “the support of the port Extremadura, a land of opportunities”

The president of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has thanked the Port Authority of Valencia (pav) for supporting the project ‘Cáceres, city of peace’. The Extremaduran official recalled that the construction of the Buddhist complex in the capital of Cáceres “was not understood by anyone except Valenciaport, as it is a spiritual project but also an economic and commercial one”. A fact for which he stressed that nowadays the economy cannot be understood without the support of other social sciences such as history and geography.

The project ‘Cáceres, City of Peace’ is an initiative of the Lumbini Garden Foundation linked to the figure of Buddha with a tourist character based on the alliance of civilisations and spirituality. It should be remembered that one of the first phases of the project was the arrival of the sculpture of Mahar Karuna Buddha on 31 August 2020 at the Port of Valencia from Myanmar, which remained on display for a few days in the Clock Building, before its final destination in Cáceres where the largest Buddhist temple in Europe is to be built.

The leader of the Government of Extremadura made these statements in Mérida during his speech at the opening ceremony of the XI International Congress of Business and Foreign Trade, organised by the Spanish Association of Foreign Trade Professionals (ACOCEX), in an event that also featured the director general of the PAV, Francesc Sánchez.

The head of Valenciaport indicated that “Extremadura is a land of opportunities and the Port of Valencia is at the side of these areas of interest, supporting initiatives such as good rail networks so that intermodal platforms can be created in the autonomous community, which is very interesting due to its connection with Portugal”. He will also support other actions such as the claim for the Extremadura-Valencia motorway.

During his speech at this forum, Sánchez highlighted the work of the Port of Valencia, which a decade ago was the thirteenth port in Spain and is now the first in container movements in the country and the fourth in Europe, a growth that comes from the implementation of new technologies, sustainable infrastructures and innovative projects that have allowed the port’s activity to grow while reducing its carbon footprint”.
