The Port Authority of Valencia  participates in Fruit Attraction in Madrid and Conxemar in Vigo to reinforce its operations with the agri-food and frozen food industry.

Valenciaport handled 545,696 tonnes of fruit and vegetables and 105,412 tonnes of frozen and refrigerated fish between January and August, with year-on-year growth of 1.5% and 27.2% respectively.

The PAV presents its range of services and connectivity for these products at these events.

This traffic shows the importance and dynamism of these two agri-food sectors that reinforce Valenciaport’s capacity for refrigerated product operations. This week the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) is present at the Fruit Attraction 2022 trade fairs in Madrid, dedicated to fruit and vegetable exports, and Conxemar 2022 in Vigo, focused on the frozen fish sector.

Valenciaport is boosting all logistics aimed at refrigerated product traffic, a key sector for many Spanish industries that use the docks of the Valencia port to bring their goods in or out. For this reason, the Commercial and Business Development area of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) is promoting the services and operations offered by Valenciaport to exporters and importers at the main trade fairs.

Néstor Martínez, Head of Commercial and Business Development will head the delegation at the PAV stand at Conxemar, the International Frozen Seafood Products Fair (Conxemar) which serves as a meeting point for the entire processing sector: wholesalers, importers, exporters, processors, manufacturers, distributors, refrigerators, machinery, auxiliary industry (refrigeration, packaging, plastics, etc.). A sector, frozen fish, which in recent years has increased its traffic from the docks of Valenciaport. In 2021, total refrigerated fish traffic was 140,383 tonnes, 8.9% more than in 2020. This year, according to data from the APV’s Statistical Bulletin with figures up to August, 105,412 tonnes have been mobilised, which means that the figures for 2021 are expected to be exceeded.

For her part, Cristina Rodríguez, head of Commercial and Clients will be in the space occupied by Valenciaport in the stand of Puertos del Estado at Fruit Attraction, a commercial connection point for fruit and vegetable exports that brings together all the professionals that make up the entire value chain, as well as having established itself as a place to present the innovation of the fruit and vegetable market. A strategic sector in the history of the Port of Valencia which has been a reference point for the export of this type of products and which maintains an important weight in the import/export traffic of Valenciaport.

The PAV was also present at the 12th edition of the National Forwarding Agents Congress of FETEIA-OLTRA held in Algeciras with the presence of Cristina Rodríguez and Manuel García, head of Business Intelligence of the PAV.

More services for the reefer

The importance of transporting these perishable products by sea is increasing with reefer containers, which allow the transport of temperature-sensitive goods such as fruit, vegetables, fish or meat, but also other products such as chemicals or pharmaceuticals.

At these trade fairs, Valenciaport explains its role as a logistics hub at the service of reefer companies, thanks to the hundred or so regular services with the five continents for perishable goods traffic, which enables access to many more markets, cost reduction and competitive improvement for these companies. The Port of Valencia has 3,250 connections for refrigerated containers, specifically, the CSP Iberian terminal (Cosco) has 1,500 reefer connections, APM (Maersk) has 750 while MSC Terminal has 1,000 containers dedicated to these products.

To these infrastructures must be added the Agro Merchants Group warehouse, which has 16,000 m2 devoted exclusively to the logistics of refrigerated products, and the 17,000 m2 border inspection post which, through the Guarantee Mark, guarantees that any container taken to these facilities must be checked in less than 45 minutes.
