Specialist crew company Boers Crew Services is making moves to be more sustainable with the recent addition of two new electric vehicles to its fleet for the transportation of crew members.

The Dutch crew specialist company recently took ownership of the two new vehicles, bringing its total fleet number to sixteen. The two latest additions are now being used alongside its existing van fleet as the company looks ahead to a greener future for the maritime industry.

Boers Crew Services, which uses the vehicles to transport seafarers to and from ports, has been using the new electric vehicles after they joined the Boers fleet this summer, along with a number of new bigger Diesel-run vans.

To continue to safeguard crews and seafarers, the new electric vehicles have been fitted with partition screens and company drivers continue to wear masks and adhere to Covid health and safety procedures including deep cleaning and sanitising all vehicles pre and post transportation transfers. Charging units have been installed on site to facilitate the growing e-fleet.

The specialist company based out of the Netherlands, has navigated the challenges surrounding Covid regulations for different nationalities, which are still ongoing, and the crisis saw them thrust into one of their busiest periods. After the rise in demand for its services, the firm is pleased to be able to transport more crew members in one journey, thanks to its new vehicles.

The company is committed to prioritising its sustainable practices and as the Netherlands prepares to bring in new rules for all new cars to be electric from 2025, Boers is making plans to move more of its fleet to be electric-powered over the next five years.
