The first chemical tanker of MR type has been laid down at the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex


The first chemical tanker of MR type has been laid down at the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex. This is the main vessel in a series of 3 tankers which are already being constructed at Zvezda, SSK under the contract with SCF Atlantic which is subsidiary company of Sovcomflot.

Chemical tankers of MR type are designed for transfer of oil product and gas-condensate. The power plants of the tankers will operate on environmentally friendly LNG, that can significantly reduce volume of emissions into the atmosphere. The DWT of the tanker will be about 50 000 t, the length is over 180 m, the width is over 32 m, the draught -13,4 m. 1B ice class vessels can safely perform all-year navigation including in the ice conditions of the Baltic Sea.

The ceremony of laying down the vessel was held on the open final assembly area of Zvezda, SSK. Sergey Tseluiko, Managing Director of Zvezda, SSK, and Sergey Tsyba, Supervision team leader of Sovcomflot ECO attached a memorable inset nameplate to the aft section in the presence of the shipyard’s management, representatives of the Buyer and partnership organizations.  The vessel was named «Ivan Aivazovsky» in honor of the world-famous marine painter.
