Key Greek shipping representatives were joined by recently appointed LR executives to discuss how the industry can navigate the drive to decarbonise and energy efficiency challenges.

The Lloyd’s Register (LR) Hellenic Advisory Committee (HAC) 2021 was held in a digital format and provided a forum for shipowners to discuss the roadmap to net zero fuels for future vessels and operational efficiency strategies for existing fleets.

“As a trusted advisor, we can help you address the upcoming challenges and support you with the significant investment decisions we must all make in the decade ahead,” LR Chief Executive Officer Nick Brown told Committee members attending the meeting.

During the meeting, specific emphasis was given to investment readiness and the biggest barriers to achieving the IMO’s 2050 emissions targets. The short-term measures, energy saving devices and fleet optimisation solutions and technologies were highlighted at a focus session on how to improve the operational efficiency of the Greek fleet.

“It has become increasingly clear that the years to come will be transformational for our clients. This is why, in Greece, we keep investing in offering first-hand expertise, deepening local capacity with global experience and reflecting on the unique needs of our Greek clients. This is our answer and reaffirmation of our mission to work together for a safer world,” commented Theodosis Stamatellos, LR’s South Europe Marine & Offshore Regional Manager.

The 2021 HAC meeting marked the transition of chairmanship to Frangiskos Kanellakis, Executive Director at Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement, Pantheon Tankers and Alpha Gas. “It’s an honour to chair such a prestigious committee. We feel satisfaction and appreciation that LR is taking a leading role in the new era and has developed interesting tools to assist us to comprehensively tackle new challenges of our sector,” the new HAC Chair said in his opening statement.
