The Swedish Club celebrates 40 years in Greece

The Swedish Club is celebrating a landmark event in its history, with the 40th anniversary of its first international office, established in Piraeus, Greece in 1980.

The full-service office is now home to 18 employees with expertise in P&I, Marine and FD&D, and serving the needs of the markets in Greece, Italy and the Middle East.  This contrasts with forty years ago, however, when the brand-new office was manned by a team of three.

Lars Rhodin, MD The Swedish ClubLars Rhodin, Managing Director of The Swedish Club, says: “This important anniversary has provided a beacon of light in what has been a very challenging year for all of us.   As the first step in the Club’s strategy of becoming a more international business, Greece has always been very close to the heart of the Club.

“Of course, Greece is the biggest shipping market in the world, but more importantly, The Swedish Club has an affinity with the Greek way of doing business. Long-term relationships and trust are very important for those in the Greek shipping sector, and these too are the cornerstones of our own business approach.”

The Swedish Club has seen steady and sustainable growth in its Greek membership over the years and has maintained close links with Greek shipowners for much of its recent history. These close links are further strengthened by five members of the Greek shipping community having seats on the Board.

Hans FIlipsson, Area Manager, Team Piraeus
Hans Filipsson, Area Manager, Team Piraeus, says: “I would like to extend my personal congratulations on this very special anniversary to all members and business colleagues served by Team Piraeus. We may not have been able to celebrate it in 2020 as we had hoped, but we are looking forward to once again enjoying the personal contacts we so value as we move further into 2021.”
