V.Group shortlisted for two SAFETY4SEA awards

V.Group has been shortlisted for two SAFETY4SEA awards – Dry Bulk Operator award and Initiative award.

SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award

The SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award recognises any ship operator of bulk carriers or general dry cargo vessels who demonstrates safety excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity.

V.Group has been nominated for ensuring all operations and staff, suppliers and contractors are aligned with the company’s long-term sustainability strategy which makes strong commitments and sets ambitious targets.  To this end, a Sustainability Committee was formed in 2019 with the aim of reducing harmful emissions, eliminating single use plastics and enhancing awareness of environmental responsibilities across its entire workforce and in the wider market.

SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award

The SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award recognises any organisation or association that sparks, realises, or significantly contributes in any initiative fostering safer and sustainable shipping.

The Covid-19 pandemic brought about an unprecedented period of uncertainty for all industries and continues to impact the seafaring community every day.  V.Group has been nominated for focusing on the Covid-19 impact on maritime operations and lessons learned by producing a series of discussion papers entitled ‘Life After Lockdown’.  Aimed at stimulating debate, the papers challenge operators to embrace a rare opportunity for change.

Our shortlisting is testament to the hard work and expertise of our V.Group colleagues, and our unique ability as the global leader of ship management and marine services to continually strive for HSEQ excellence and flawless service delivery. Under our value “We Care”, safety underpins everything we do as we aim to deliver on the highest of safety standards.

Matt Dunlop, Group Director Health, Safety, Environment, Quality (HSEQ) & Technical, V.Group, commented: “Shipping is at a crucial turning point in building a safe and environmentally driven future. At V.Group, we are dedicated to achieving and maintaining industry-leading performance in safety and environmental initiatives in many areas of operation.”

The winners of each category will be determined by an online public vote, which is now live, and announced during the SAFETY4SEA award ceremony on 6th October. To cast your vote, visit the 2020 SAFETY4SEA AWARDS website or click here.
