U.S. agency expresses interest in purchase of Elefsina Shipyards via Onex

Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis has received a letter from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) expressing official interest in the purchase and renovation of Elefsina Shipyards via Onex Shipyards, the ministry revealed in a tweet.

The tweet was posted on Friday, with a photograph of the letter signed by DFC’s CEO Adam Boehler attached.

In this, DFC said it was now proceeding with the required due diligence for the project before deciding whether to go ahead with the investment.

“A successful investment in Elefsina Shipyards will establish an important hub to support and service liquified natural gas shipping from the U.S. and West Africa to Greece and the Western Balkans and other projects that contribute to regional energy independence,” Boehler said, while also noting the potential to “revitalise a strategic asset and support significant job creation”.

Georgiadis noted that the letter was a vindication of the efforts made with Deputy Development and Investments Minister Nikos Papathanassis and due to the active assistance of U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt and Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos.
