Colleagues onboard the Seaways Reymar have been praised for rescuing a lone yachtsman from his vessel which was drifting in the North Atlantic.

The Seaways Reymar was on route from the UK to Houston when on 22 May the UK Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) requested it divert to rescue the man (pictured below) from his vessel,  Helena, which had run into difficulties and was drifting around 600 miles off the UK coast.

In a personal message to Captain Nejal and the crew of the Seaways Reymar, Matt Dunlop, Global Director, HSEQ, said: “On behalf of V.Group, we congratulate you and your crew for the professional and heroic efforts locating and rescuing the yacht Helena and her skipper.

“I am sure the yacht skipper’s family are also indebted to you and your crew. Thank you again and well done, we are all very proud of you.”

The rescued sailor is now recovering onboard the Seaways Reymar and is being accommodated in line with V.Group’s current Covid-19 precautions.

Following discussion with MRCC, the Seaways Reymar issued a message to all vessels in the area informing them that the abandoned yacht had been left to draft.

The Seaways Reymar has now resumed its journey to the port of Houston.
