The Cyprus Shipping Chamber, within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility and significant charitable work done by the Cyprus Shipping Industry in general, appealed to its Member-Companies to join forces, to support the Cyprus Government in the difficult battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the immediate response of its Member-Companies and in full coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the State Health Services Organisation, in order to contribute to the current and immediate needs of the Cyprus General Health System and Hospital Units fighting against the pandemic, the Shipping Chamber has undertaken to purchase a specialised complete medical respiratory system (Nitric Oxide Treatment Machine with Gas Cylinder Support).

In addition, the valuable contribution of the Shipping Industry to the Cyprus society, is strengthened even more through the commendable private initiatives and multifaceted actions of the Shipping Chamber’s Member-Companies, which include the donation of specialised ventilators, medical equipment and consumables (surgical masks, gloves, protective suits), offering merchant ships for the transport of specialised disinfectants to Cyprus, but also with social actions such as the food catering of hospital units, reduced calls prices for seafarers on board in order to have regular contact with their families, free online shipping training licenses and offering practical support to vulnerable groups.

This substantial contribution which supports the fight against the pandemic, once again presents the Cyprus Shipping Industry’s tireless drive to contribute to the Cyprus Society, sending the message that, “Shipping, does not only carry Cargo and Passengers, but also carries Messages of Social Solidarity and Support”.
