Italian export volumes of Hapag-Lloyd continue its upward trend, with a further relevant growth expected in 2026 compared with 2025, bringing cumulative growth since 2021 to over 20%
Hapag-Lloyd’s global strategy focuses on strengthening its worldwide network, offering services connecting Italy with markets across the globe. In Italy, the company has a particularly strong commercial focus on the United States, Canada and Mexico, main trades for export. Hapag-Lloyd also maintains a leading position in Latin America and Asia.
Genoa represents an area of particular strength, with Hapag-Lloyd achieving market shares above the national average on key trade lanes. Building on this solid foundation, the company will continue to invest in and expand its operations across Northern Italy, while further strengthening its presence in Southern Italy and the Adriatic region.
Almost all services and trade lanes are showing positive trends. This favourable performance is also reflected at the Port of Genoa, where Hapag-Lloyd is the largest container customer.
These results reflect the company’s ongoing investments in operational efficiency, service quality and customer care, with a strong focus on building and strengthening relationships with customers and shippers.
Despite the tensions affecting the Red Sea region, Hapag-Lloyd has recently confirmed its decision to resume transit through the Suez Canal on four services connecting Europe with the Far East. This development is expected to improve service frequencies and connectivity for the Italian market.
At the same time, Hapag-Lloyd is pursuing a fleet expansion program with a strong focus on sustainability. With 32 new vessels currently on order, the company is further investing in fleet modernization and alternative propulsion technologies. Fifty vessels in its existing fleet are already capable of operating on fuels other than conventional marine fuel.
“The company has a well-established presence in the Italian market and is closely monitoring geopolitical developments in the Middle East and the Black Sea,” says Filippo Cimellaro, Managing Director Hapag-Lloyd Area Italy. “We are ready to anticipate emerging trends, adapt to a changing environment and further strengthen our position in Southern Europe.”
