Eni launches start-up activities for the Meleiha Phase 2 project in Egypt’s Western Desert

Eni, through Agiba Petroleum Company, the joint venture between Eni and EGPC (Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation), has launched the start-up activities of the Meleiha Phase 2 (MP2) project in Egypt’s Western Desert.
The project represents a key milestone in the development of a new gas hub within the Merged Meleiha concession and will significantly increase the gas processing capacity for production from the area’s fields, supporting the growth of domestic gas output and the valorization of Egypt’s energy resources. The new facility has been designed to process up to 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
Meleiha Phase 2 includes an integrated infrastructure system comprising development wells, gathering systems, trunklines and a new dedicated gas export pipeline. These facilities will ensure the connection of new production to Egypt’s existing gas infrastructure, enabling the rapid monetization of resources and enhanced operational efficiency.
The launch of the project confirms Eni’s role as a strategic partner of Egypt and reaffirms the Company’s long-standing commitment to contributing to the country’s energy security through the development and valorization of the Western Desert’s diversified resource base, one of the most promising areas of Egypt’s energy sector. The project will also contribute to increasing natural gas availability for the domestic market and has been developed in accordance with the highest standards of operational excellence, safety and environmental sustainability.
Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 and is currently the country’s leading energy producer, with hydrocarbon production of approximately 242 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day on an equity basis in 2025. Through its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Eni operates across the entire energy value chain, with exploration, development and production activities in the Western Desert, the Gulf of Suez, the Nile Delta and the Eastern Mediterranean.
