Three Companies, One Roof — Singapore’s New Hub for Consolidated Ship Management and Maritime Talenτ

A ceremony for around 280 guests sets the stage for a “broader Asia” built on ship management and people.

On October 6, 2026, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, held the opening ceremony for its new Singapore office at Keppel South Central, consolidating three of its Singapore-based Group companies under one roof. Around 280 people attended, including government and maritime figures from Japan and Singapore, customers and business partners, as well as the host team. By bringing together ship ownership, ship management, and commercial and business operations in a single location, the Group aims to maximize its collective strength — sharpening the competitiveness of its ship-management operations while strengthening Singapore as a hub for attracting and developing talent across the region

Ownership, Management and Commercial Under Two FloorsT

The new office houses three companies that had previously operated from separate locations across the city. Shipping firm KLPL (“K” LINE PTE LTD) occupies the 22nd floor of the Keppel South Central tower, while energy business KME (K LINE MARINE & ENERGY) and shipmanagement company KMSM (K MARINE SHIP MANAGEMENT) share the 21st floor.

“This relocation is a major milestone for the K LINE Group in Singapore. By bringing the three companies together in the same office, we will further strengthen collaboration within the Group, integrate our business operations, and build a stronger foundation for future growth.”— Takahiko Tsurukawa  ·  President & CEO, KLPL

Toward Globally Integrated Management of About 150 Vessels

The point of the consolidation is not simply cost. By consolidating ship management, the Group strengthens its ability to operate its fleet as one global unit — lifting the competitiveness of the management business itself. Maritime Bridge Japan reports that K Line targets globally integrated management of about 150 vessels under a new shipmanagement structure.

“The most important point in ensuring safety is the front line.— Takenori Igarashi  ·  President & CEO, “K” LINE (Maritime Bridge Japan interview)

Core operating company KLPL handles small-and-medium bulkers and Aframax tankers and owns 1,700 TEU container ships.President Igarashi said shipping is the company’s founding business and must be polished, while vessel prices and yard availability make it a moment to weigh the next move — owned orders or charters.

Working With Government and Universities to Grow Asia’s People

K Line’s Singapore presence is not only an office. It is a hub for attracting and developing talent. President Igarashi stressed the Group’s long history in Singapore and its close ties with government bodies such as the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). “For Singapore’s national push on green and digital, we will contribute through talent development,” he said.

Links with education run deep. The Group provides a scholarship programme at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) — started in 2007 and increased to two scholars a year from 2022. With the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), KMSM partners to provide a seafarer development programme. The effort gives young Singaporeans hands-on experience and gives K Line a pipeline of skilled people.

“SMF and the K Line Group go back many years. When SMF launched a scholarship scheme to bring young Singaporeans into the maritime industry, K Line was the first corporate sponsor. In about 20 years since, K Line has provided 22 scholarships.— Tan Beng Tee  ·  Executive Director, Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF)

New Business in Green and Digital

President Igarashi positions Singapore as a strategic node connecting not only Southeast Asia but also India, the Middle East and Asia more broadly. In these regions, he said, new opportunities keep emerging across shipping, energy, logistics and maritime services — making Singapore one of the Group’s most important strategic bases. On decarbonization, Singapore is active in alternative-fuel bunkering. In March this year, K Line signed a memorandum with Sumitomo Corporation and NYK to jointly study a new ammonia- fuel supply vessel in Singapore. “On green, Singapore is one of the leading regions. We will develop new businesses, including new-energy supply chains,” President Igarashi said.

“As the environment around our industry keeps changing, being close to customers, information and excellent people matters more than ever. That is why we keep investing in Singapore.— Takenori Igarashi  ·  President & CEO, “K” LINE

KME CEO Akihiro Fujimaru, a Senior Managing Executive Officer of K Line, spoke of the people behind the business. Introducing a video message from employees, he said the Group’s strength is not buildings, technology or assets, but the people who create value together every day — and that the new office carries that spirit and resolve for the future.

Celebrating a New Chapter With the Lion Dance

At the ceremony, guests including Mr. Hiroshi Ishikawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Singapore, and Mr. Loh Khum Yean, Chairman of the MPA, offered their congratulations, and a ribbon-cutting and other commemorative events were held. The venue was dressed with lion dance costumes and auspicious scrolls as maritime figures from Singapore and Japan celebrated the new base.

Addressing the opening ceremony on behalf of the new base, Akihiro Fujimaru, Senior Managing Executive Officer of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE) and concurrently President of K Line Marine & Energy (KME); the CEO of K Marine Ship Management (KMSM) is Osamu Tanetani. The venue displayed the “K” LINE logo and the grand-opening visuals. The new office will do more than bundle ownership, management and commercial functions. It is a place to draw in and grow people across Singapore and Asia. The ribbon cut before some 280 witnesses is the first step of that long voyage.
