The Swedish Club marks official opening of New York office

The Swedish Club has officially opened its new office in New York City, marking an important step in the Club’s continued development across the Americas. Members, brokers and maritime industry stakeholders joined The Swedish Club at an opening event at Lightbox in Manhattan on 13 October to celebrate the new office and the Club’s long-term commitment to the region.
Located at 140 Broadway in the heart of New York’s Financial District, the office is led by Ian Duthie, Regional Executive Director, Americas, and provides The Swedish Club with a permanent base from which to support members and brokers and develop its marine insurance offering across the region. The operation brings the Club’s expertise across various products including Hull & Machinery, P&I, Charterers’ liability, Energy and Offshore, War, Loss of Hire and Builder’s risks while establishing a claims and loss prevention presence in one of the world’s leading maritime, insurance and financial centres.

The expansion comes at a time when shipowners are facing a changing risk environment, with geopolitical volatility, shifting trading patterns but also inflationary pressure across their operations including insurance and claims. The New York office forms part of The Swedish Club’s continued international development and gives the Club a stronger base from which to serve the Americas market and our global membership.
Speaking at the official opening, Thomas Nordberg, CEO of The Swedish Club, said: “Opening our New York office is an important step for us and reflects our long-term commitment to the Americas. Being on the ground means we can be closer to our members and brokers, understand what they need and respond quickly when they require our support.”

“Marine insurance is about much more than the cover itself. It is about working as a knowledgeable, valued and trusted partner of our members by bringing together underwriting, claims experience, loss prevention and practical support. Having Ian and the team in New York allows us to do that.”
Ian Duthie said: “Owners today are increasingly confronted with risks that are complex and require a broad range of experience. Casualties and claims in the Americas region are often unique and it’s important to have a knowledgeable and closely connected local office in this time zone. Our presence in the Americas will only strengthen our ability to react to Members needs and drive more efficient claims management.”

“From New York and in the Americas time zone, we can partner more closely with our members, clients and brokers, and draw on the vast experience and support available across The Swedish Club’s global offices. Being here also allows us to be part of and a contributor to the wider maritime community.”
