GT Wings expands product range with launch of new lightweight AirWingTMS to reduce emissions for smaller vessels

GT Wings has announced the latest addition to its wind- assisted propulsion product range, AirWingTMS, a new compact and lightweight Jet Sail developed to address the operational requirements of smaller commercial vessels.
The new design expands the AirWingTM product line to address a broader segment of the commercial shipping market. With a streamlined lightweight configuration, the AirWingTMS has been developed specifically for smaller vessels where vessel size, available deck space and weight considerations can influence the suitability of wind-assisted propulsion technology.
The launch is the next step in GT Wings’ strategy to develop a scalable family of AirWingTM Jet Sails, enabling the technology to be adapted to differing requirements across the global commercial fleet.
George Thompson, CEO of GT Wings, said:
“The AirWingTMS is an important addition to our product range. We know there is significant diversity across the global fleet, and wind propulsion solutions needs to reflect the different requirements of individual vessel types. By developing a compact AirWingTM, specifically for smaller vessels, we can address another part of the market and make the emission reduction benefits of wind propulsion accessible to a wider range of shipowners.”

New product launch alongside first commercial production
The announcement comes as GT Wings marks a major milestone in the commercialisation of its technology, with an Open House event showcasing the first customer-ordered AirWingTM units nearing completion at its partner Zunsion Technology’s manufacturing facility in Nantong.
GT Wings announced a strategic manufacturing partnership with Zunsion Technology in March 2026. The partnership established a framework for industrial-scale production of AirWingTM systems in China, combining GT Wings’ wind propulsion and systems integration expertise with Zunsion’s manufacturing and assembly capabilities.
The launch of the AirWingTMS during the Open House event, alongside the first commercial AirWingTM20 units, reflects GT Wings’ continued development of a scalable AirWingTM product family designed to meet the needs of a broader range of vessel types and operating requirements.

Xu Jinbiao, CEO of Zunsion Technology, said:
“It is a pleasure to welcome GT Wings, partners, and guests to Nantong and to showcase the progress being made here. The AirWingTM units now taking shape at our facility demonstrate what our partnership has already achieved, and we look forward to continuing to grow this partnership with GT Wings as its technology and product range continue to develop.”
International collaboration in maritime innovation
Open House attendees toured the facility and viewed two nearly completed 20m AirWingTM units ahead of delivery. The programme also included a keynote address by Ms. Marie Langrishe, Trade Counsellor for Technology and Industry, UK Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade Technology of the UK Embassy to China in Beijing, as well as a technical update on the latest AirWingTM product developments.
Ms. Langrishe commented:
“GT Wings’ partnership with Zunsion highlights the value of combining UK innovation with global manufacturing expertise. It is encouraging to see a British-developed technology progressing towards international deployment, creating export opportunities and supporting sustainable growth. Collaborations like this help ensure that UK innovation can compete successfully on the world stage while contributing to the decarbonisation of the maritimesector.”
The event brought together representatives from China, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the wider international shipping industry, providing an opportunity to discuss the role of advanced manufacturing and maritime technology in supporting shipping’s transition towards lower-carbon operations.
Guests toured the factory floor, viewed the two AirWingTM20 units under construction, and heard directly from the GT Wings team about the continued development of its Jet Sail technology.
George Thompson, GT Wings’ CEO, summarised:
“Bringing together our customers, manufacturing partners, and representatives from around the world makes this an important moment for GT Wings. The AirWingTM20 units taking shape in Nantong demonstrate our transition from technology development into repeatable commercial production. At the same time, we are continuing to expand the AirWing product family so that wind propulsion can deliver benefits across an increasingly broad range of vessel types and operating requirements.”
