Viking Line expands Wärtsilä service agreement partnership to a third vessel

Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a five-year service agreement with Finnish ferry operator Viking Line covering the passenger ferry ‘Viking XPRS’. The agreement expands the companies’ long-standing cooperation and makes Viking XPRS the third vessel in Viking Line’s fleet to benefit from Wärtsilä’s tailored lifecycle support services. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q2 2026.
The agreement has been tailored to the operational requirements of Viking XPRS, which operates on the Helsinki-Tallinn route. Covering the vessel’s Wärtsilä engines, the agreement is designed to enhance reliability and operational efficiency, improve maintenance cost predictability, and maximise vessel availability. To achieve this, the scope of the agreement includes maintenance planning, scheduled spare parts, tailored maintenance support, and a dedicated Contract Manager responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities.
“Our experience with Wärtsilä service agreements on ‘Viking Grace’ and ‘Viking Glory’ has demonstrated the value of a proactive and structured maintenance approach. Extending this model to ‘Viking XPRS’ supports our focus on reliability, operational efficiency, environmental performance, and predictable lifecycle costs across our fleet,” says Mathias Sundberg, Technical Manager, Viking Line.
Wärtsilä service agreements combine technical expertise, maintenance planning, spare parts support and dedicated lifecycle services in a long-term partnership model designed to improve availability, optimise performance and reduce operating costs throughout a vessel’s lifecycle.
“This agreement demonstrates how Wärtsilä’s lifecycle expertise can deliver value throughout a vessel’s operating life. By tailoring the scope to each customer’s needs, we help operators maximise availability, improve reliability and enhance cost predictability. Ultimately, these agreements support long-term asset performance while giving customers the peace of mind to focus on their operations, knowing their maintenance needs are being managed by Wärtsilä’s experts,” comments Henrik Wilhelms, Director, Agreement Sales, Wärtsilä Marine.
