ABS opens Offshore & Marine Support Center in Bergen

ABS has expanded its capabilities in the Norwegian maritime market with the opening of a cutting-edge support center in Bergen, bringing advanced engineering, technology, sustainability and survey resources to one of the world’s most strategically important energy and maritime regions.
The ABS Offshore & Marine Support Center is home to research and development engineers focused on technology development and collaboration with the local industry, along with design approval engineers supporting the Norwegian fleet and connecting clients directly to the ABS global engineering network. The office houses a dedicated commercial team focused on building and strengthening relationships across the Norwegian marine and offshore community. Bergen also serves as the primary base for ABS surveyors in the region.
“Our commitment to Norway goes beyond class excellence. We see Norway as a leading center for innovation and expertise that will help define the future of maritime,” said John McDonald, ABS Chairman and CEO. “As we expand our presence here, we are investing in capabilities that support both traditional maritime services and the adjacent disciplines that are becoming increasingly important to our clients, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, subsea technologies and risk and consulting services. These investments will strengthen our ability to help customers operate safely, efficiently and competitively in a rapidly evolving industry.
“Our ambition is straightforward: to be a trusted partner to Norwegian maritime. To support Norwegian owners as they design, build and operate the next generation of vessels and offshore assets, and help manage risk in an increasingly complex environment.”
Norway has long been a hub for offshore energy, maritime innovation and marine engineering. The North Sea drives some of the most technically demanding work in the industry, spanning conventional offshore operations, emerging offshore wind development, advanced vessel design and a drive toward cleaner, lower-emission operations.
