OBT expands into Mauritania as demand for shipping and project logistics continues to grow

Growing activity across Mauritania’s mining, energy, offshore, infrastructure, oil and gas, renewable energy and development sectors has prompted African shipping and logistics specialist OBT to establish a local presence in the country. The new operation will be connected to OBT’s wider African network.
Youssef Bouricha, OBT’s Mauritania Country Manager, said: “Mauritania is a natural next step for OBT. Customers increasingly want clear accountability throughout a job. That enables us to plan earlier, make decisions faster and adapt when conditions change.”
The expansion reflects customer demand, market opportunity and Mauritania’s strategic position on the north-west coast of Africa. International companies entering the country require detailed knowledge of its ports, customs environment, transport market, equipment availability and operational realities.

OBT Mauritania will offer shipping agency, freight forwarding, customs clearance, husbandry, project logistics, heavy-lift operations, warehousing, inland transportation and last-mile delivery. It will support Nouakchott Port, a gateway for the capital and southern and central Mauritania, and Nouadhibou Port, which is important to mining and industrial activity.
The company has already handled a range of work in Mauritania. One recent logistics operation involved 33 containers, including offloading, temporary storage and distribution to more than 20 destinations.
In addition, OBT has successfully handled several heavy-lift and project cargo operations in the country, including oversized and heavy equipment requiring specialized lifting, port coordination and inland transportation. The OBT team has also supported various port calls, providing vessel agencies and husbandry services. These projects have given OBT valuable experience in managing complex logistics operations in Mauritania, particularly where coordination between the port, customs, transporters, stevedores, suppliers and final receivers is critical.
OBT Mauritania will connect local execution with the group’s Dubai headquarters, African offices and international partner network, giving customers one point of coordination across markets.
The launch of OBT Mauritania marks an important step in the company’s continued growth across Africa. The expansion reflects OBT’s commitment to strengthening its presence in key African markets and supporting customers wherever their operations take place. Combining local expertise with the strength of OBT’s wider African network, the new office will deliver reliable shipping and logistics solutions with effective coordination across the supply chain.
