MOL President & CEO Tamura addresses company’s entrance ceremony

‘Building the Future Together with MOL CHARTS in Our Hearts
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, announced that on October 1, it welcomed 28 new employees. President & CEO Tamura delivered the following message at the entrance ceremony.

“Congratulations on joining the MOL Group. I warmly welcome all of you as our newest colleagues. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is a comprehensive infrastructure company centered on one of the world’s largest shipping businesses. I am confident that the MOL Group is a place where you can fully demonstrate your abilities and build rewarding and successful careers.
“The MOL Group has a set of core values and standards of conduct known as ‘MOL CHARTS.’ The name is inspired by the word ‘chart,’ meaning a nautical chart, and is formed from the initials of six key words. Each of these words embodies values that are important to the MOL Group and reflects the principles that guide our actions. Today, I would like to focus on two of them: ‘C’ for Challenge and ‘S’ for Safety.
“Let me begin with Challenge. I am told that when we ask candidates in interviews about their impression of MOL, many of them answer ‘challenge.’ I also feel that the spirit of challenge, taking on new initiatives and striving to go one step further, is naturally rooted in our company. Beyond the shipping business we have engaged in for many years, the MOL Group has expanded into a wide range of fields, such as cruise ships and submarine cable-laying vessels. Furthermore, this December we will launch a new business operating an Arctic research vessel, which will conduct research and observation in the Arctic Ocean. Some of you may have opportunities to be involved in such businesses in the future. MOL is a company that encourages you to take on a wide variety of challenges, not only in conventional shipping but across a broad range of other fields as well.
“Next, Safety, our highest priority. In February of this year, after the situation around the Strait of Hormuz deteriorated, passage through the strait effectively became impossible, and MOL-operated vessels inside the gulf were forced to remain there. Even in these circumstances, guided by our values and standards of conduct, we have continued to give top priority to the safety of our seafarers, our vessels, and the cargo entrusted to us by our customers.
“Our fundamental approach is for the organization to move in one direction and achieve results under shared values and standards of conduct. As you gain a variety of experiences in the years ahead, I hope you will deepen your understanding of what the MOL Group values and contribute greatly to the growth of our businesses. I sincerely look forward to your success.”
