European Maritime Specialist Lehmann Marine secures Breakthrough China Battery Installation

Lehmann Marine, a specialist in maritime energy storage and a Sunlight Group company, has secured its first deployment in China with the commissioning of its modular CUBE bat- tery system aboard the AESEN 116H, an advanced 42-meter hybrid fast crew boat built for Singapore-based operator AESEN. The fully integrated hybrid propulsion system on the AESEN 116H delivers an estimated 30~40% fuel saving compared to conventional crew boats operating under similar conditions.
Built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards in China and equipped with hybrid propulsion integrated by marine systems specialist Stin Global, the vessel marks Lehmann Marine’s debut installation at a Chinese shipyard. The con- tract highlights the ongoing demand for European systems engineering in Asia‘s competitive shipbuilding sector, where class-certified safety and high operational reliability remain decisive selection criteria.
Operating in high-frequency offshore transit and field logistics, the AESEN 116H utilises Lehmann Marine’s air-cooled CUBE battery system for peak shaving and zero-emission harbour manoeuvres. Selected to meet stringent crew safety standards and BV, DNV, LR and RINA class approvals, the German-engineered platform features a modular architecture that allows technicians to service or replace individual components directly on board, avoiding costly drydock delays.
„Reliable energy storage is essential for hybrid propulsion. Lehmann Marine’s CUBE battery system has provided the safety, reliability and performance required for AESEN 116H, supported by strong technical assistance during the project. Together, we have realised a hybrid vessel that moves smoothly in near silence, with no diesel fumes, no vibration, offering dependable power, greater efficiency and improved crew comfort,“ says Laks Ekanayake, Director at Stin Global.
“Serviceability is one of the practical strengths of our systems,” adds Alexander Lehmann, Managing Director of Lehmann Marine. “Our modular approach makes service work considerably more straightforward. Combined with our international service structure, this gives operators the confidence that support remains available well beyond commissioning.”
Industrial Scale and Global Reach via Sunlight Group
This operational milestone is underpinned by the industrial scale Lehmann Marine commands as a Sunlight Group company. Backed by Sunlight Group’s international manufacturing footprint – exceeding 9 GWh in an- nual production capacity across Europe and North America – the company pairs specialised marine systems engineering with global supply chain strength. The project establishes a strategic springboard for Lehmann Marine‘s commercial growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
