MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES Now Operates a 2-Ship Fleet

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, announced that MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA, operated by MOL Group company MOL Cruises,will enter service on September 19, and embark on its maiden voyage from the Port of Yokohama. On September 16, ahead of MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA‘s entry into service, a large and enthusiastic group of stakeholders attended a naming ceremony aboard the ship while it was berthed at the Yokohama Shinko Pier Cruise Terminal.

MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA is the second cruise ship to join MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES fleet, following the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, which entered service in December 2024. Like MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, the new vessel features all-suite accommodations featuring ocean views. As a Japanese-registered vessel, MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA will primarily offer short- and medium-duration cruises departing from and returning to ports throughout Japan, with 29 inaugural cruises scheduled during the three-month period through December 2026. Carrying forward the spirit of hospitality cultivated over more than 140 years, strong ties with ports of call, and a commitment to exceptional cuisine, the ship will offer a new cruise experience enriched by Japanese aesthetics. As part of the new onboard experience, the “Sushi Bar Shiosai” which has both table seating and counter seating where guests can enjoy sushi paired with Japanese sake. In addition, the Grand Pool Area now features a footbath, creating a relaxing space where guests can unwind comfortably while fully clothed.

Under Phase 2 of its management plan, “BLUE ACTION 2035,” the MOL Group has adopted a portfolio strategy that positions its cruise business as a stable revenue business, helping to offset the volatility of the shipping market. Going forward, with a two-ship fleet comprising MITSUI OCEAN FUJI and MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA, the MOL Group will strive to further enhance corporate value and realize its Group Vision.
