York Space Systems introduces new Platform Purpose-Built for Very Low Earth Orbit

Variant of flight-proven S- and LX-CLASS enables higher-fidelity observation, resilient orbit diversity, scaled deployment in self-cleaning VLEO regime

York Space Systems, a leading, U.S.-based national defense and commercial prime providing a comprehensive suite of mission-enabling solutions, is introducing the LX/V-CLASS, a new spacecraft platform purpose-built for Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) missions. Adapted from York’s S- and LX-CLASS platforms, LX/V-CLASS marks York’s entry into one of the fastest-growing orbital regimes, with expanding demand across commercial and government customers, further broadening the range of mission types the company delivers from its proven manufacturing base.

LX/V-CLASS is engineered for sustained operations at very low altitudes, where atmospheric drag naturally clears debris from the operating environment. Payloads benefit from higher-fidelity observation and a shorter path to the ground, and constellation architects gain a diversification layer that complements assets in LEO, MEO, GEO, and cislunar, building the orbit diversity customers need for resilient architectures.

The platform builds directly on demonstrations accomplished during York’s BANE mission, during which the company demonstrated communications and attitude control at altitudes down to 200 kilometers. BANE validated the full system stack required for sustained VLEO operations, including low-altitude communications and attitude control in a high-drag environment.

LX/V-CLASS turns those results into a productized platform that customers can field today at the tempo and scale their missions require.”

VLEO is emerging as one of the fastest-growing operational domains in space, as commercial and government operators seek higher-quality observation, lower link budgets, and orbit regimes inherently more resilient to both natural debris and hostile action. The regime is well suited to the proliferated, rapid-refresh architectures that resilient mission designs require, and it operates in a more risk-tolerant environment conducive to deployment at scale. Leveraging York’s existing inventory, the LX/V-CLASS can be deployed as quickly as six to seven months after contract. LX/V-CLASS extends York’s operational reach into this segment, adding VLEO to the mission sets the company already delivers for national security and commercial customers.

York’s expansion into VLEO is supported by more than $755 million in production and supply chain investment that positions the company for rapid fielding as customer demand grows. LX/V-CLASS shares subsystems, interfaces, and the YORK flight and ground software with the broader product line, drawing on the same U.S.-based manufacturing base that produces York spacecraft today. York currently operates three constellations and five simultaneous missions, a flight-proven foundation that differentiates the company from emerging peers still in development. The LX/V-CLASS introduction continues York’s track record of expanding into adjacent markets from a proven spacecraft prime foundation, broadening both the mission portfolio the company delivers and the range of customers it serves.
