HD Hyundai Heavy Industries expands Peru Training

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said on Aug. 27 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Peru’s Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion to foster shipbuilding industry talent and enhance technical capabilities. Attendees at the recent signing ceremony held in Peru included Choi Heon, vice president of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries; Juan Manuel Cosme Shybot Moore, minister of Labor and Employment Promotion of Peru; and Choi Jong-wook, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Peru, reaffirming their commitment to cooperation.
The core of the agreement is to establish a practical training system based on industry demand. The two sides agreed to jointly develop training curricula for shipbuilding-related occupations and focus on improving workers’ job competencies. In particular, the goal is to build a systematic training system capable of producing personnel who can be deployed immediately at industrial sites.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will determine the specific scope of technology transfer and provide support in stages. First, it plans to focus on training technical personnel in key occupations that form the foundation of the shipbuilding industry, including welding, fitting, and quality control. It also intends to broaden the scope of support to include the cultivation of specialized personnel in shipbuilding equipment and related industries, with the aim of boosting the overall competitiveness of Peru’s shipbuilding sector.
The move is also connected to warship and submarine construction projects currently under way in Peru. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is carrying out local shipbuilding projects while simultaneously pursuing workforce training programs based on the Korea International Cooperation Agency’s Inclusive Business Solution program, thereby securing business stability.
Regarding the agreement, Vice President Choi Heon emphasized, “We will continue to pursue various projects so that we can contribute to expanding industrial cooperation between the two countries.”
